Researched and designed form and plan during the initial design stage (SO). The challenge was how to embed the sculpural volume of the house in the dune landscape, whilst respecting the demands of the municipality (Welstands Commisie). In addition I produced the artist impressions.
Summary
The design for this holiday home on the island of Terschelling integrates the required program into the existing natural and built environment in a very precise way. The built volume is like an introvert monolithic wooden sculpture that has been shaped by natural forces, like topography, wind, vegetation and sun. Two big carefully positioned windows in the volume frame two beautiful vistas like a painting. The materialisation of naturally greying wood further enhances the monolithic quality and integrates the building within the natural flow of the surrounding dune landscape.
